DIVISION OF PERSONNEL ANNOUNCES testing for the rank of FIREFIGHTER in the ST. Croix District only

Dayna Clendinen, Division of Personnel Director and Daryl George, Director of Fire Service, in accordance with V.I. Code Title 3; Chapter 25; Section 523; announce testing for the rank of FIREFIGHTER in the ST. Croix District only.  All interested candidates must sign-up and submit a completed application package online at www.dopusvi.org by 11:59 pm, Monday, July 20, 2020.  The testing dates are scheduled for August 11-14, 2020. The online preparation manual and practice tests that simulates the full-length version of the exam are now available for a minimum fee.

To qualify, a candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate from an accredited institution; possess or be able to  qualify for a motor vehicle operator’s license; must be a US citizen or permanent resident; must be eighteen (18) years of age or older at time of hire; must successfully complete the national registry EMT certification and Firefighter-I  training upon completion of new recruit training within 18 months of employment; no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven (7) years; ability to meet the department’s physical standards.

The following candidates will be exempted from sitting the written examination, but are required to meet all other established criteria for qualification:

  • Persons holding a degree in any field of study (Associates and above) from an accredited institution.
  • All honorably discharged veterans from any branch of the US armed forces (DD214).
  • Junior Firefighters who successfully completed established fire curriculum (approved by DOP &VIFS) along with written verification or certificate from VIFS officials.
